Polaramine 2mg Tablets 20 contain dexchlorpheniramine maleate 2mg, a sedating antihistamine used for relief of allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery or itchy eyes.

It may also help relieve allergic skin symptoms, including hives, itching, insect bite reactions, and irritation from contact with grass, plants or other substances. This is a Pharmacist Only Medicine, so pharmacist assessment may be required before supply.

• Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
• Do not use if you are allergic to dexchlorpheniramine maleate or any ingredient in this medicine.
• Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, over 60 years of age, or have glaucoma, prostate problems, difficulty passing urine, heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, seizures, kidney disease, liver disease, stomach ulcer or bowel obstruction.
• Do not use with sedatives, sleeping tablets, opioid pain medicines, alcohol, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, or other medicines that cause drowsiness unless advised by a doctor or pharmacist.
• Polaramine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use sun protection when outdoors.
• Stop taking this medicine 48 hours before allergy skin testing, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
• Seek medical advice if symptoms persist, worsen, or if you experience breathing difficulty, severe drowsiness, confusion, fast heartbeat, difficulty passing urine, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe allergic reaction.
• If an overdose is taken or suspected, contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 or go to hospital immediately.
