PicoSalax Twin Pack is a bowel preparation medicine used to clear the bowel before medical procedures such as X-ray examination, endoscopy or surgery.

It produces watery bowel motions to help empty and cleanse the bowel before the procedure. This is a Pharmacist Only Medicine, so pharmacist assessment may be required before supply.

• Incorrect use can be harmful. Use only under the direction of a doctor, specialist, hospital or pharmacist.
• Do not use in children under 9 years of age.
• PicoSalax is not intended for use as a routine laxative.
• PicoSalax may cause life-threatening dehydration and electrolyte disturbances in some people. Drink fluids as directed and do not drink water alone to replace fluid losses unless advised by your healthcare professional.
• Do not use if you have heart failure, significant kidney impairment, known or suspected bowel obstruction or perforation, gastric retention, gastrointestinal ulceration, toxic colitis, toxic megacolon, ileus, a stoma, severe dehydration, active inflammatory bowel disease, undiagnosed abdominal symptoms, nausea and vomiting, or allergy to any ingredient.

• Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are elderly, frail, pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, diabetic, have heart disease, kidney problems, electrolyte disturbances, inflammatory bowel disease, low body weight, or take regular medicines.
• This medicine may affect the absorption of other oral medicines, including anti-epileptics, contraceptives, anti-diabetic medicines and antibiotics. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice about your usual medicines.
• Seek urgent medical advice if you develop severe diarrhoea, dizziness, fainting, confusion, seizure, shortness of breath, swelling of the face or throat, rash, hives or signs of dehydration.
• If too much is taken or you feel unwell, contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26, your doctor, or go to hospital immediately.

Ingredients

• Active ingredients per sachet: Sodium picosulfate 10mg, light magnesium oxide 3.5g and citric acid 12g, forming magnesium citrate in solution
• Other ingredients: potassium bicarbonate, saccharin sodium and orange flavour
• Contains: lactose approximately 4.5mg per sachet and potassium 195mg per sachet

Storage Instructions

• Store below 30°C.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture, heat and sunlight.
• Keep sachets in the pack until it is time to use them.
• Keep out of reach of children.
