Picolax Twin Pack is a bowel preparation medicine used to empty and cleanse the lower bowel before gastrointestinal examinations or procedures such as colonoscopy, barium enema, X-ray, IVP or surgery. It works by producing watery bowel motions to help clear the bowel before the procedure.

Each pack contains 2 sachets of powder for oral solution. This is a Schedule 3 Pharmacist Only Medicine, so pharmacist assessment may be required before supply.?

Warnings & Important Information

• Always read the label and follow directions for use.
• Pharmacist consultation may be required before supply.
• Schedule 3 Pharmacist Only Medicine.
• Do not use in children 9 years and under.
• This medicine causes frequent, loose bowel motions. Stay close to toilet facilities after taking it.
• Adequate fluid intake is important. Dehydration and electrolyte disturbances may occur, especially in at-risk patients.
• Do not use if you have severe dehydration, severe kidney problems, congestive heart failure, stomach ulcer, bowel obstruction, perforated bowel, toxic colitis, toxic megacolon, active inflammatory bowel disease, ascites, acute abdominal conditions such as appendicitis, or if you have nausea or vomiting, unless advised by a doctor.
• Speak to your doctor before use if you are elderly, physically weak, pregnant, diabetic, have kidney disease, heart disease, epilepsy, low blood pressure, electrolyte imbalance, swallowing problems, recent gastrointestinal surgery, or are taking medicines that affect fluid or electrolyte balance.
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you take, including oral contraceptives, antibiotics, anti-epileptics, diabetes medicines, heart medicines, diuretics, corticosteroids, lithium, NSAIDs, antidepressants, antipsychotics, carbamazepine, other laxatives, opioid medicines, iron supplements and multivitamins.
• Oral medicines taken within 1 hour of starting Picolax may not be absorbed properly.
• Picolax may cause fatigue or dizziness, usually related to dehydration. Be careful driving or operating machinery if affected.
• Seek urgent medical advice if you develop symptoms such as confusion, convulsions, muscle weakness, spasms, severe dizziness, signs of dehydration or allergic reaction.
• If you think you have taken too much, contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 or seek urgent medical attention.

Ingredients

• Active ingredients per sachet: Sodium picosulfate 10mg, magnesium carbonate 7.9g equivalent to magnesium oxide 3.36g, and anhydrous citric acid 11.8g
• Other ingredients: Lemon flavour, acesulfame potassium, povidone and silicon dioxide
• Does not contain lactose, sucrose, gluten, tartrazine or other azo dyes

Storage Instructions

• Keep each sachet sealed until it is time to mix.
• Store below 30°C.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture, heat and sunlight.
• Do not store in the bathroom, near a sink, in the car or on window sills.
• Keep out of reach of children.
