Polaramine 2mg Tablets 40 contain dexchlorpheniramine maleate 2mg, a sedating antihistamine used to relieve allergic symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, and watery, itchy or burning eyes.

It may also help relieve allergic skin symptoms, including hives, itching, redness, and irritation from insect bites or contact with grass, plants or other substances. This is a Pharmacist Only Medicine, so pharmacist assessment may be required before supply.

Do not give Polaramine Tablets to children under 12 years of age.
• This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness or light-headedness. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
• Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
• Do not use if you are allergic to dexchlorpheniramine maleate or any ingredient in this medicine.
• Do not use with monoamine oxidase inhibitor medicines used for depression unless advised by a doctor.
• Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, over 60 years of age, or have seizures, liver or kidney disease, thyroid disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, glaucoma, prostate problems, difficulty passing urine, stomach blockage or peptic ulcer.
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take other medicines, including sedatives, sleeping tablets, anxiety medicines, strong pain medicines, antidepressants or warfarin.
• Polaramine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use sun protection when outdoors.
• Stop taking Polaramine 48 hours before allergy skin tests, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
• Seek medical advice if you develop wheezing, shortness of breath, fast or irregular heartbeat, difficulty passing urine, hallucinations, severe rash, swelling of the face or throat, or seizures.
• If an overdose is taken or suspected, contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 or go to hospital immediately.

Active ingredient: Dexchlorpheniramine maleate 2mg per tablet
Other ingredients: lactose, maize starch, pregelatinised maize starch and magnesium stearate
Contains: lactose

Storage Instructions

• Store below 25°C.
• Keep tablets in the blister pack until it is time to take them.
• Store in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture and sunlight.
• Keep out of reach of children.
