Phenergan 10mg Tablets 50 contain promethazine hydrochloride 10mg, a sedating antihistamine used for allergy symptoms, allergic skin reactions, hay fever-related runny nose, motion sickness, nausea and vomiting.

It may also be used for short-term sedation only on the advice of a pharmacist or doctor. This is a Pharmacist Only Medicine, so pharmacist assessment may be required before supply.

• Do not use in children under 6 years of age.
• This medicine is not suitable for children aged 6–12 years unless advised by a pharmacist or doctor.
• Do not give to newborn or premature babies.
• This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision, including the next day. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
• Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.
• Do not use if you are allergic to promethazine, phenothiazines, or any ingredient in this medicine.
• Do not use if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, unconscious, in a coma, or taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors unless advised by a doctor.
• Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are over 65 years, have asthma or breathing problems, glaucoma, prostate or bladder problems, epilepsy, heart disease, blood pressure problems, kidney or liver disease, stomach ulcer or blockage, Parkinson’s disease, thyroid disease, myasthenia gravis, or take regular medicines.
• Promethazine may increase the sedative effects of sleeping tablets, opioid pain medicines, other antihistamines, antidepressants, antipsychotics and some other medicines.
• This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Protect your skin from strong sunlight.
• Stop taking this medicine and seek medical help if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, breathing difficulty, severe drowsiness, confusion, hallucinations, fast heartbeat, or unusual symptoms.
• Stop taking this medicine at least 3 days before allergy skin testing, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
• If an overdose is taken or suspected, contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 or go to hospital immediately.
